In a warm and personal setting,The Paris Danube Print Salon is a new and exclusive gathering for collectors and enthusiasts of contemporary prints and original multiples.
The Salon is organized by three master printers: Edouard Wolton, artist and head of the print studio at the Fiminco Foundation; Michael Woolworth, printer and publisher; and Wernher Bouwens, artist and professor at the Beaux-Arts de Paris, in collaboration with Susan Tallman, an American art historian and essayist specializing in contemporary art and the printed image, former editor-in-chief of Art in Print.
The Paris Danube Print Salon offers a different kind of art-fair experience. Located in the historic Hôtel du Danube, an 18th-century gem in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the Salon is conceived as an
antidote to the hectic pace and spectacle of the conventional art fair. Its quiet rooms invite proximity, conversation, and sustained attention—a place to look at leisure, discover and acquire contemporary art, and meet the people who make it possible.
It is often in this dialogue, between idea and material, artist and printer, that something unexpected happens, and a new work of art emerges. In this spirit, the second Paris Danube Print Salon offers a global view of the ways contemporary artists are demonstrating the vitality of printmaking today, while preserving what makes the medium so enduring: its intimacy, its physical presence, and the possibility of looking closely.
As Susan Tallman explains, “Artists’ prints are at once among the most intimate and democratic forms of art: portable and social, yet slow in their production and their unfolding to the eye. The experience of a print depends on proximity—to the paper, the mark, the surface, and the choices that have gone into making it. Yet at a moment when so much art is encountered through screens and images, it has become increasingly difficult to get close enough to experience that particular magic: to understand the object, rather than simply glimpse it."
Every afternoon, the Paris Danube Print Salon hosts talks and discussions dedicated to contemporary printmaking.
Thanks to the generous support of the AmEyeArt Prize, two emerging printer publishers have been invited to take part in the Paris Danube Print Salon.
